Leadership Granville

In a program designed to offer a formalized leadership development course, the Granville County Chamber of Commerce, Granville County Schools, and Vance-Granville Community College have joined forces to present Leadership Granville.

The program offers citizens of Granville County the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the community and develop leadership potential. It offers new citizens an opportunity to become personally and professionally acquainted with county structure and life, which can benefit their present and future leadership.

OBJECTIVES

Select highly-qualified, potential, and emerging leaders who are most likely to give to the community.
Include participants from various sectors of the community to establish a network for future communication and understanding.
Provide leadership skill training, i.e., problem solving, group dynamics, future planning, etc.
Study community issues, perspectives, and functions.
Create direct lines of communication between participants and existing community leaders.
Communicate the benefits of Leadership Granville to the community.

LEADERSHIP GRANVILLE – CLASS OF 2009-2010 ACCEPTING APPLICANTS

Leadership Granville's Steering Committee has met to plan sessions for the upcoming year's program. Comments and suggestions from past class members have been taken into consideration. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Granville County Schools and Vance-Granville Community College, Leadership Granville offers citizens the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the community and develop leadership potential.

Sessions are held mid-September thru the end of March, with graduation traditionally planned for early April. The sessions include programs topics on leadership assessment; county history; agriculture; government – city, state, county and national; human relations; human services; small business tour; arts; education; judicial system; northern and southern county tours.

Applications are reviewed by the selection committee in order for the class to represent a cross-section of interested, motivated and committed participants from all segments of the county. Interested persons should contact the Chamber for information and registration forms.

This year the Steering Committee is being led by Donna Hosch, Chairman (City of Oxford); Kathy Arrington, Vice-Chairman (retired); Jo Ann Averette, Secretary (Clerk of Court); Monique Powell, Treasurer (VGCC); and Eleanor Fowler, Facilitator (retired).

Committee members are: Charlie Easton (Granville County Cattlemen's Assoc.); Sandy Gabel (ACIM and Granville Co. Cattlemen's Assoc.); Gus Gillespie (Granville County Schools); Sue Hinman (ACIM); Mark Hyde (Granville Health System); Debra Weary (Granville County EDC); Cecilia Wheeler (VGCC); Teresa Williford (Bandag); Jim Wrenn (Hopper Hicks & Wrenn); and Ginnie Currin (Granville County Chamber of Commerce).

Many county businesses have been supportive of our leadership program and given their employees an opportunity to participate. The fee is $350.00. Please contact one of the Chamber offices or a Steering Committee member for additional information.
