NORTH CAROLINA TRAVEL DESTINATIONS
As vacation season approaches, please take notice of an incredible website which can help you plan your getaway --- www.HomegrownHandmade.com.
This partnership of the North Carolina Arts Council and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, is funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation.
"You can experience distinctive communities and breathtaking rural countryside in North Carolina from the coast to the foothills." This new online guide "takes you along back roads to sample fresh goat cheese and scuppernong wine, artists' studios and sidewalk cafes. Plant your own salad bowl, stomp grapes at a local festival, watch a potter mold clay or an artist create a dulcimer. From u-pick-it produce farms to hometown festivals, vineyards to galleries, the trail system was developed by the folks who know it best --- artists, farmers, chefs, historians and museum curators, ranchers and sportsmen."

"IDENTITY THEFT"
PRESENTED BY: NC ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE
What a special treat
Friday, May 9 at 8:00 am at Creedmoor City Hall. Carolyn Farmer, a
representative of North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper's office, will
be the guest presenter for this informative meeting. We are very fortunate
to have this presentation available to Granville County citizens and hope
everyone will plan to attend. Government Forum co-chairs
Pat Kiesow and Lois Pauluzzi have gone to great lengths to bring interesting
and informative programs to our monthly gatherings. Please help us
publicize this special offering and invite friends and neighbors to attend
with you. Government Forum attendees
were informed at the April meeting about the Oxford Downtown Economic
Development office. In June, Rep. Jimmy Crawford and Senator Doug Berger
will give the program. July's program will be given by the Director of the
Granville County Board of Elections, Tonya Burnette. Cooperative Extension
Agent Tommy Brooks will host the August meeting at their office on Wall
Street. The list goes on thru the end of 2008 with an incredible offering
of topics. Plan to join us!
HUMAN RESOURCE COMMITTEE MEETING
THURSDAY, MAY 15TH
The Human Resource
Committee will be meeting Thursday, May 15th at 12:00 noon with
Lois Pauluzzi, Manpower, as host. Location and program details will be
announced in an email reminder one week prior to the 15th. April's meeting was held at
Gate Precast, with member Judy Thompson hosting. We always enjoy visiting
Gate and the many other Chamber member businesses who provide lunch and a
program at their location.
NEWS ABOUT OUR MEMBERS
Express Personnel Services announces that they have a new name change --- Express
Employment Professionals. Hal Muetzel, owner of the Oxford office, and his
staff want everyone to know that the local ownership and service is not
changing – only the business name. Their office at 212 Granville Corners is
ready to provide their usual, quality service, with an additional variety of
employment services. The "new name better reflects this progression." Hal serves as chairman of
the Ambassadors Group. He and his staff are supportive of the Chamber's
monthly membership meetings and HR committee. We appreciate their
involvement and support and wish them well! Granville Health System has completed a $1.5 million upgrade project, which began
last spring. Portions of the exterior have been revamped and replacement of
all the windows in the Medical Center will soon be completed.
Administration notes that "the repairs and new windows will help allow
additional room renovations. These improvements are just the beginning step
in providing our patients with an even better, more pleasant facility."
PRESENTING…….
ALIVE AFTER FIVE – MAY 8
5:30 'TIL 8:30 PM
DOWNTOWN OXFORD PARKING LOT
FEATURING: "THE CRAIG WOOLARD BAND"
It's the first Alive After
Five of 2008 and you won't want to miss it! An exciting evening is planned
on Thursday, May 8 when THE CRAIG WOOLARD BAND takes the stage to
entertain. Craig performed at an earlier event when he was a member of The
Embers. This will be the first time that his band has performed for us. After 27 years singing with
The Embers as one of North Carolina's official "Ambassadors of Beach Music",
Craig is now on his own! Craig has won many awards with The Embers, and is
proud of his tenure with the group as lead singer. A veteran of the music
industry since he was 14 years old, Craig has performed for Presidents,
governors and ambassadors; appeared on stage with famous groups --- The Four
Tops, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, Percy Sledge, Archie Bell and
Alabama. His music has been heard from the Caribbean, to New York, to
California, Chicago, Atlantic City and as far away as Hawaii and Europe. He
is currently working with Petty Enterprises producing a beach music CD to
benefit Victory Junction, a camp for seriously ill children, as well as a TV
show spotlighting beach music. His awards from the
Carolina Beach Music Awards include: Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist
of the Year (for many years), Producer of the Year, Collaboration of the
Year, Song of the Year, Song of the Year. Additionally, Craig is one of the
most loved entertainers in beach music today. He will go out of his way to
help his many fans His band's commitment is to
give their audience MORE than their money's worth. When you attend a
function with Craig as the featured performer, you will be caught up in the
fun. Many people can sing, but Craig has a special gift that puts him light
years above the rest --- he is a SHOWMAN, and THAT'S the difference. Their
audience knows no age boundaries – small children love him; college kids at
fraternities and beach music concerts scream for him; the more mature crowd
comes away with the sweet memory of that special someone from a lifetime
ago. The chamber is extremely
appreciative to the SPONSORS of the three events of 2008. Without their
support, these entertaining events which bring our communities together,
would never be possible.
